How do I know if I need orthodontic treatment?

The most important thing is to diagnose the problem well by carefully studying each case. We take photographic records, x-rays and study models which give us necessary information about the problem. Then we will offer our patients different treatment options tailored to their needs.

From a health point of view, crowded teeth or teeth that do not have enough space are difficult for patients to clean and/or brush daily, and are the most common cases in which orthodontic treatment is performed.  In general, bad positioning of the teeth leads to tooth decay, tooth loss or gum disease.

From an aesthetic point of view, most people like to smile. Having a nice smile is synonymous with having perfectly aligned teeth.

So whether you have crowded teeth, gum or jaw problems, or just want to smile without feeling ashamged, orthodontics is the solution.

How long does an orthodontic treatment last?

Orthodontic treatments can last from 12 to 36 months, but it is not an exact science, since each case depends on the patient's age and the technique used.
We believe that each patient is unique so we closely monitor each treatment and pamper our patients to ensure the best outcome in the shortest possible time.

What is the best age to start orthodontic treatment?

We believe in the use of orthodontic treatment in all ages, because we believe that the relocation of the teeth, as well as the correction of functional problems resulting from poorly positioned teeth, can prevent many dental problems and give new life to your teeth.

There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. What limits us is the health of the oral tissues, as well as the teeth and gums. One factor that indicates whether or not to carry out orthodontic treatment on an adult is their gingival health. Consequently, uncontrolled orthodontic treatment with patients with periodontal disease (commonly called "gum disease") is contraindicated.

The age of onset varies depending on the patient and their problem, and the dentist will be the one to evaluate the case and make a decision.

Orthodontics for children and adults

For children, there are four periods in which we can begin treatment: before the permanent teeth grow through (problems in bone structures are common), while the permanent teeth are growing through, when the permanent teeth have finished growing and at the end of growth (common in problems in which an orthodontic-surgical solution is required).

Faced with the same problem, different professionals may choose to begin treatment at different times; one may prefer to start now and the other later, or the same dentist may have two different treatment plans for the same patient, depending on when the patient wants to start. There are different paths to get to the same destination. The dentist will make the decision by taking into account the views of the patient and parents or guardians.

Another age issue is orthodontic treatment during adulthood, when there is a high demand for aesthetics and discrete appliances, which is why we offer ceramic, invisible and lingual braces, and treatments with fixed or removable appliances are usually indicated, depending on the problem that needs correction.

Types of adult braces

  • Ceramic braces are the same color as the teeth. They are glued to the visible surface of the tooth.
  • Lingual orthodontics is done with special braces attached to the inner surface of the tooth, so they are not seen.
  • Invisible braces are removable appliances (aligners adapted to the teeth) which are completely transparent and changed every month. They can be taken out to eat and brush your teeth, but maximum patient cooperation is required.

Revolutionary techniques in traditional orthodontics

We believe in the innovation of our orthodontic systems even though they are done traditionally. We use the most advanced technique in placing braces to always offer the best results in the shortest time possible.
  • Times are reduced, thanks to the use of new more efficient arches.
  • Our system reduces the need for tooth extractions for space.
  • We significantly reduce orthodontic treatment, so the patient has to wear the braces for less time and make fewer visits to the clinic.

An orthodontic technique designed to reduce treatment time and get results in the most aesthetic way possible.
